Full Circle! In 1968, David Bowie wrote English lyrics for a French song called “”Comme d’habitude”, which the French rejected because Bowie was an unknown. Songwriter Paul Anka soon re-wrote the song, and Frank Sinatra released it as “My Way”. In turn, Bowie re-re-wrote the lyrics in 1970 as “Life On Mars?” and had his own huge hit.

American rock band The Velvet Underground got their name from Michael Leigh’s 1963 book of the same name that explored a secretive sexual masochist subculture.
