R.E.M. recorded a song about Texas blues great Lightnin’ Hopkins on their 1987 album, Document, called “Lightnin’ Hopkins”

The Beatles’ Paul McCartney actually advised Michael Jackson that publishing rights were a good investment, and was reportedly quite surprised when Jackson bought publishing rights to The Beatles’ songs.
