Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Charlie Parker began playing saxophone at eleven years old. He couldn’t have known it at the time, but his innovations in improvisation and syncopation would come to define the very fabric of Jazz music. Charlie’s immense talent attracted a stable of young students who became virtually every iconic name in Jazz — Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, and Charles Mingus, among others.
