Otis Redding once survived a shootout committed by James Brown himself. When Otis was a side man playing piano behind Joe Tex at a gig in Georgia, Brown came in wildly firing a shotgun towards the stage, over a dispute with Tex.

Shuggie Otis played bass on Frank Zappa’s celebrated jazz instrumental “Peaches en Regalia” when he was just fifteen.
