The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games attempted to book The Who’s drummer Keith Moon for the 2012 Summer Olympics — evidently unaware he had been dead for 34 years.

The Beatles’ original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe left the band shortly before they became famous to pursue painting full-time in Hamburg, where he unexpectedly died of a brain hemorrhage at just 21. The Beatles included a photo of him on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
