Description
This is a remastered, Speaker's Corner release of Aretha Franklin Live At Fillmore West.

This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

This is something of a legendary album, as it includes a duet with Ray Charles, and the backing band is King Curtis, his all-star band The Kingpins, and The Memphis Horns. Interestingly, the storied soul classic King Curtis Live At Fillmore West was recorded on the same night with the same band!

It's a rare album that conserves true spirit and sheer enthusiasm of a live performance -- a feat no arranger or sound mixer can conjure up in the studio.

But even more sensational was Aretha Franklin’s guest appearance at the Fillmore West, the legendary concert hall in San Francisco, which closed down shortly afterwards.

Aretha had left her own band in Detroit for this engagement, instead leaning on the Stax Records all-star soul music hit making musicians. After all, some of the cast were from her South Memphis childhood neighborhood before moving to Detroit.

Accompanied by King Curtis, the trailblazers Cornel Dupree (g) and Bernard Purdie (dr). The Memphis Horns, the hottest horn section of the 20th century, Billy Preston on organ and Ray Charles, who by chance was in the night's audience. Ray and Aretha sang "Spirit In The Dark". No words need be lost about the queen on the cover. For without the superb albums of the late Sixties, Aretha Franklin would never have become the USA’s first sister of soul nor would she have appeared in the Fillmore West.
