Description
This Bluescentric Brand official Sun Records t-shirt comes in classic heavy 100% preshrunk cotton sizes S-5XL. Heather colors are 50/50. Sizes run very true, and have minimal, if any, shrinking. This is a standard go-to t shirt.
This design features the vinyl record label center of Elvis Presley's first single,
That's All Right,
written by bluesman Arthur Crudup.
Elvis grew up enchanted with the guitar playing of Arthur Crudup on the radio. He wanted to play & sound like Crudup, even quipping that if he
could
... he'd be famous.
"Down in Tupelo, Mississippi, I used to hear old Arthur Crudup bang his box the way I do now, and I said if I ever got to the place I could feel all old Arthur felt, I'd be a music man like nobody ever saw."
- Elvis to Charlotte Observer, June 26, 1956
Sun Records' owner Sam Philips had decided to give Elvis Presley an audition on a hot July 5th night in 1954. It was not going well... until during a break, Elvis began strumming Crudup's song "That's All Right, Mama", and his band joined in live.
Philips pressed "record", took it as-is and with no overdubbing at all, and ran the song to the local celebrity Memphis radio DJ. Reportedly, the station was overwhelmed with calls, ultimately playing the song over a dozen times in a row.
Everyone knew they had a hit.
Nobody could imagine the stratospheric trajectory they'd started that would propel this country boy from Tupelo, Mississippi to towards never-before-seen super-stardom in just a matter of months.
