Carl Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes” was a smash hit when he was seriously injured in a car accident, so Elvis covered the song & waited to release it until Carl’s version fell in the charts, which helped continue Perkins’ income while he was recovering & unable to tour.

Inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, Green was referred to on the museum's site as being "one of the most gifted purveyors of soul music".
