In 1965, American culture was coming to a boil, and San Fransisco was the epicenter.

Three guitarists, Peter Albin, James Gurley and Chuck Jones, with Jazz drummer David Getz, formed Big Brother and the Holding Company, experimenting with a music that would soon come to be popularly known as psychedelic rock.

With the addition of Janis Joplin, who brought a traditional bluesy vocal approach, BBHC's acidic psychedelic music was ready to explode into American Pop.

Following up a firey performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival with 1968's Cheap Thrills, Big Brother and the Holding Company became a household name.
