In 1965, a change in American culture was coming to a boil, with San Fransisco at the epicenter.

Three guitarists, Peter Albin, James Gurley and Chuck Jones, with Jazz drummer David Getz, formed Big Brother and the Holding Company. They experimented with a music that would soon earn its own popular recognition as a genre... psychedelic rock.

After the addition of Janis Joplin's vocals contributing a bluesy vocal approach, Big Brother's psychedelic music was ready to explode into American Pop.

Following up a firey performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival with 1968's Cheap Thrills, Big Brother and the Holding Company began smashing the charts with hits like Ball and Chain, Down On Me, Piece of my Heart and more.
