It was 1965 and San Fransisco was ground zero for America's cultural explosion when three guitarists - blues guitarists Peter Albin, James Gurley and Chuck Jones, formed Big Brother and the Holding Company. When Big Brother needed a singer, they called Janis Joplin back from Port Arthur, Texas.
After an incendiary performance at the massively influential 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, Big Brother and the Holding Company became a household name.
