While Cheap Thrills was technically Big Brother and the Holding Company's second album, it was really their debut, and a major breakout hit, spending eight weeks at number one on the Billboard chart.  

While it sounded live, all except the last track was recorded in studio with live audience effects. overdubbed later. The beautiful cartoony artwork on Cheap Thrills was designed by the great Robert Crumb.
