Between East 7th and East 10th Street in New York City is “Charlie Parker Place” — the honorary street name of Avenue B where Parker lived until 1954, shortly before his death.

Billie Holiday started her recording career with an outstanding series of small group sessions for Columbia, made between 1935 and 1941. When she signed her last long-term contract with Norman Granz in 1952, he tried to repeat the small group magic of her early days, surrounding her by brilliant jazz soloists. This album, containing recordings from her 1952 and 1954 sessions, is an excellent sampler of her skills and charms.
