At the height of Bob Dylan's career, a 1966 motorcycle crash left him unable to perform. So Bob and the backing band he'd recently hired from Ronnie Hawkins retired to Woodstock, New York, where they began playing music for fun in the basement of the band's house, lovingly nicknamed "Big Pink".
It would take eight grueling years before Columbia Records would finally release what would become the iconic Americana album The Basement Tapes in 1975.
