Cops jailed Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Illinois Jacquet, and Norman Granz in 1955 for planning to perform for a racially integrated audience. They got out on bail in time to play the show, audience none the wiser, and the “gambling” charged were dropped.
