Held in 1967, Monterey Pop featured famed performances by Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, The Grateful Dead, The Butterfield Blues Band, Booker T and the MGs, and the first U.S. performance by The Who and Jimi Hendrix. Pete Townshend smashed his guitar in a famous finalé. Not to be outdone, Hendrix set fire to his guitar after his performance.
