Butterfield honed his musical skills growing up in Chicago & learning from the greats like Muddy Waters before forming his own band -- which included guitarist Mike Bloomfield and a young Elvin Bishop. Butterfield sang and played blues harmonica.
After a landmark performance at 1965's Newport Folk Festival (including the landmark moment where Bob Dylan "went electric") the group recorded their eponymous first album, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, a raw, brazen and powerful mix of electric Chicago style blues & rock & roll.
The album features rocking originals, and rolling covers of Elmore James, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and more.
