After the tragic death of saxophonist Charlie “Bird” Parker, his friend poet Ted Joans began writing “Bird Lives” all over New York City. The campaign took a life of its own, and BIRD LIVES can still occasionally be found scrawled on sidewalks, walls and bathroom stalls.

Coming of age in 1950s Chicago's, Paul Butterfield honed his skills with the greats like Muddy Waters before forming his own band that included guitarist Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop.

After a landmark performance at 1965's Newport Folk Festival  that included the infamous moment where Bob Dylan "went electric", the group recorded their eponymous first album, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Containing a mix of electric Chicago style blues & rock & roll, the album is raw, brazen, and powerful -- beautifully weaved together by Butterfield's harmonica and scorching vocals.

The album features rocking originals, and rolling covers of Elmore James, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and more.
