St. Louis was started in 1764 by French traders Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau on the west side of where the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers meet. The small camp quickly grew into an important town for trade and travel. The Saint Louis Flag features both rivers, and the Fleur de Lis
