“[John Coltrane] was studying Buddha sometime near the last gig [of his life] and found that there was a chant where you could pound your chest and it would change the sound of your voice. He wanted to get that quiver on the horn, and when he couldn’t get it, he’d put the horn down, beat on his chest and scream into the microphone. People really thought he’d lost his mind then.” – Rashied Ali, drummer for John Coltrane

Stevie Ray Vaughan's landmark 1983 album Texas Flood cemented Vaughan's reputation at the top of guitar-driven Texas Blues.

The title track, a cover of a classic 1958 blues song by Larry Davis, features Vaughan's fiery solos and a raw, soulful performance that cemented his reputation as a modern blues master. "Love Struck Baby" and "Pride and Joy" fast became classic rock and blues staples, as did the fun "Mary Had a Little Lamb".

Vaughan's gumbo of Texas blues, rock, and jazz influences created a powerful and distinct sound that made Texas Flood widely regarded as a revival of the blues genre, bringing it back to mainstream audiences.
