Chess Records experienced a rare failure by signing a young Buddy Guy in the 1960s, but refusing to release his wild, guitar-driven music — until they saw Jimi Hendrix explode in unprecedented popularity by playing guitar the way he’d learned from Buddy.

AC/DC took their band name from the initials “AC/DC” on their sister’s sewing machine, standing for “alternating current/direct current.”
