Tom Petty dropped out of high school to join a band, Mudcrutch, at 17 years old. While the band didn’t last long enough to release a record, some of its members formed Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

Blues guitarist B.B. King was godfather to blues singer Bobby Bland’s child, Rodd.
