Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1942, the world soon fell in love with Aretha’s uncompromising & strong American attitude as she sang hit after smash hit like “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You),” “Respect,” and “I Say a Little Prayer”. Franklin won 18 Grammy Awards, 20 number-one R&B singles and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She performed at three Presidential inaugurations over four decades: Jimmy Carter in 1977, Bill Clinton in 1993, and Barack Obama in 2009.
