Nineteen years after Buddy Holly died, Waylon Jennings got back together with his former The Crickets bandmates for a mashup of four Holly songs in a row on his hit 1978 solo album “I’ve Always Been Crazy”.

Boz Skagg’s soulful 1969 song “Loan Me A Dime”, which famously features a pre-fame Duane Allman on guitar, was originally a Fenton Robinson song, recorded for the Palos label two years earlier.

The Rolling Stones’ sax player Bobby Keys, Outlaw Country legend Waylon Jennings, and Rock & Roll originator Buddy Holly all lived in the same neighborhood in Lubbock, Texas & were friends before each was famous. Jennings & Keys both played with Holly’s backing band The Crickets (though Keys did after Holly’s death).
