Folk singer Pete Seeger was likely the last person to ever hear bluesman Big Bill Broonzy sing. He recorded the private performance and the next day, doctors nicked Broonzy’s vocal chords while performing cancer surgery. The bluesman never sang (or talked above a whisper) again.

Elvin Bishop’s iconic song “Fooled around and fell in love” was actually sung by a backup singer, who later used the song to join the band Jefferson Starship.
