The Meters’ masterful fifth album, 1974’s “Rejuvenation” was famously sampled by Public Enemy and Timbaland, and several songs were covered by The Grateful Dead (“Hey Pocky A-Way”) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (“Africa”).

It was members of The Funk Brothers, Motown’s legendary house band, who backed John Lee Hooker’s famous 1962 song “Boom Boom”.
