Leonard Chess, along with the Chess family, sold Chess Records in January of 1969 and just ten months later in October, Leonard suffered a fatal heart attack.

Jimi Hendrix performed The Fillmore on New Year’s Day, 1969 (and, technically, 1970). He played Auld Lang Syne at midnight.
