It takes guts to hire away Howlin’ Wolf’s rhythm section, and that’s what Paul Butterfield did with drummer Sam Lay and bassist Jerome Arnold for The Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s self-titled 1965 debut.

Robert Petway first recorded “Catfish Blues”, covered by Muddy, Hendrix, Gov’t Mule, et al, and then disappeared. No later recordings were ever found.
