John Lee Hooker was born in (abouts) 1917 in the extremely tiny, rural town of Tutwiler, Mississippi — coincidentally the very same town where W.C. Handy first heard & documented a man singing what he called “the blues” in 1903.

Taj Mahal famously covered Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues”, and The Allman Brothers famously covered Taj’s version three years later.
