Acclaimed American folk guitarist Elizabeth Cotten hadn’t played for over three decades until, by chance, she began working as housekeeper for the famed Seeger family of folk singers & musicologists. Inspired to resume playing, Cotten went on to win a Grammy in 1986, received a National Heritage Fellowship & in 2022 was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

The Band’s Robbie Robertson said “I was noodling on a Martin guitar, and I looked inside,” the guitar was manufactured in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, which sparked the idea for “The Weight”, with the opening line “I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin’ ‘bout half-past dead.”
