While at the Fillmore Theatre in the mid-1960s, someone baked Jerry Garcia a birthday cake, and while enjoying it, one of the bakers noted, ‘Yeah, we put about 800 hits of acid in that frosting’.

The Grateful Dead’s skull/lightning logo, the iconic dancing bears, and even the band’s legendary “WALL OF SOUND” speaker system were all contributed by Owsley “Bear” Stanley, a chemist who was originally the band’s LSD dealer.
