Paramount Records was actually founded by the Wisconsin Chair Company. They had made phonograph cabinets and needed records for people to play on them. So they recorded the likes of Blind Lemon Jefferson, Ma Rainey and Tommy Johnson.

The hotly-contested lyric from James Brown’s 1973 classic song “The Payback” is actually “I don’t know karate, but I know ka-razor” — often misheard as “ka-razy”.
