Steve Miller Band covered Johnny “Guitar” Watson’s hit song “Gangster of Love” on his 1968 album Sailor. The line “they call me the gangster of love” in Miller’s 1969 smash hit song “Space Cowboy” was a reference to this.

The same drug dealer was considered responsible for the deaths of both Janis Joplin & Jim Morrison the following year.
