On December 3rd, 1976, gunmen attempted to assassinate Bob Marley before a politically charged concert. He was shot in the chest, his wife Rita was shot in the head, his manager & staff were shot, all survived. Before being executed for the attempt, the gunmen said they were contracted for the job by the United States CIA. Wounded, Marley defiantly played the concert.

Tom Petty cited The Kinks’ “Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One” as an influence for his 2002 album, “The Last DJ”.
