The origin of Woody Guthrie’s famous “This machine kills fascists” painted on his guitar originated from stockers that American machinists affixed to metalworking lathes and drill presses in support of the war effort.

When Paramount Records shut down, it was rumored that the blues master recordings from Charley Patton, Skip James, Son House and Blind Lemon Jefferson were thrown into the nearby river.
