Pigmeat Markham, a Black comedian and vaudeville star who performed in blackface, recorded the 1968 single “Here Comes the Judge,” which is often cited as the earliest hip-hop record.

While Ray Charles did get a special viewing of the movie “Ray” based on his life, he died just four months before its release. The movie was an award-winning box-office hit.
