“You crawl off the bus at four o’clock in the morning, and some journalist’s doing a story and he says, “What would you call an AC/DC tour?” Well, it was a highway to hell. It really was. When you’re sleeping with the singer’s socks two inches from your nose, that’s pretty close to hell.” – Angus Young, Guitar World interview, January 1st, 1993

"No one can play the blues like Blind Willie McTell," crooned Bob Dylan, and he was right.

While Blind Willie McTell never received the accolades he deserved while living, the prolific singer & slide guitar virtuoso was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Blind and itinerant from a young age, always a musician, sometimes a preacher, McTell made music largely on Georgia's street corners & house parties.

While McTell died shortly before the American Folk Revival of the 1960s, his music continued to capture the imaginations of generations of musicians.

Taj Mahal & The Allman Brothers famously covered Willie's "Statesboro Blues", Bob Dylan wrote songs & verses about McTell, and some 70 years after the Georgia songster recorded "Your Southern Can Is Mine", The White Stripes covered it for their 2000 release De Stijl -- even dedicating the whole album to McTell's memory.
