While The Beatles’ Paul McCartney was among many at Abbey Rd. Studios whose sound bytes were recorded for Pink Floyd’s immortal Dark Side of the Moon, his lines didn’t make the cut, because “he was trying to be funny, which wasn’t what we wanted at all.”

Nestled on historic Route 66, The Coral Court Motel was a St. Louis legend; a neon-lit hideaway mixing mid-century modern style with roadside mystery. The Coral featured hotel rooms with individual garages, and a hidden swimming pool -- perfect for those who needed the most discretion. The legend of the Coral only grew after infamous kidnapper/murderer was arrested at the hotel, and then the cops who arrested him were themselves jailed after a couple hundred thousand dollars of the ransom money disappeared. The Coral Court's distinctive art deco curves and pink-and-black style made it unforgettable for travelers and locals alike. Today, the building is gone but the allure of the gritty yesteryear roadside icon continues to spark imaginations.
