Rebel rebel, your face is a mess
Rebel rebel, how could they know?
Hot tramp, I love you so!
"Rebel Rebel" was David Bowie's glam-rock finale, released on February 15th, 1974 in anticipation of his upcoming album Diamond Dogs. The album was a smashing success, peaking at #1 in the UK and five in the US.
Where Dogs aimlessly danced across Orwellian themes in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, "Rebel Rebel"s message had a much firmer, if not fluid, direction. Bowie toured from June through 1974 to support the album, though by September, he'd dropped his elaborate "The Year of the Diamond Dogs" stage show, and instead had a stripped-down soul show -- a preview of his next upcoming album, Young Americans.
