Despite being an undisputed founding father of Jazz, Buddy Bolden was tragically never recorded — though Jelly Roll Morton carried on his legacy with the Bolden-styled song, “I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say”.

The Jazz Workshop in San Francisco opened in 1957 and quickly became a home for modern jazz thanks to legends like Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane. For a brief moment it was one of the most important jazz rooms in the country. before it closed in the late 1960s.
