Where Charlie Parker got the name ā€œBirdā€ is a mystery — In one famed story from The Reno Club in Kansas City, Drummer Jo Jones (no relation to ā€œPhillyā€ Jo Jones) threw a cymbal at teenage Charlie Parker’s feet when he poorly improvised a saxophone solo in the wrong key, causing him to fly like a bird.

The Star Club in Hamburg was a gritty little music joint that became legendary for hosting early shows by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and numerous other rock ’n’ roll greats. Packed with wild energy, cigarette smoke & raw sound, it was the place where a big chunk of rock history got its start.
