It was an unlikely series of events that entwined Sting, Andy Summers and Steward Copeland together in London in 1977 to casually form The Police. Influenced by London's blooming underground punk and reggae scenes, the trio had to borrow £1,500 to record their first album Outlandos d'Amour. After hard work and heavy touring, the album caught fire, the single "Roxanne" became a huge hit that helped define an entire era.

Every subsequent album The Police released was met with greater and more fanatic critical and commercial acclaim. 1979's Reggatta de Blanc, followed by Zenyatta Mondatta, then Ghost in the Machine, brought the band to #2 on the charts... and then came their magnum opus. 

In 1983, The Police released Synchronicity, to explosive fanfare. They began being referred to as the biggest band in the world, because, among other things, they were selling out venues like Shea Stadium in New York that only The Beatles had previously sold out. 

The band decided to end on a high note after their fifth and final album & tour. The Police won five grammy awards, a People's Choice Award in 2008, and were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.
