Elton John booked a studio in Jamaica to record “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, because The Rolling Stones recorded Goats Head Soup there, but had to leave after discovering the studio conditions were deplorable. They added the song “Jamaica Jerk-Off” to the album in tribute to the event.

Big Joe Turner’s song “Piney Brown Blues” was about the manager of The Subway Club in Kansas City’s famed 18th and Vine.
