Howlin’ Wolf spent two and a half years in the US Army, as part of the 9th Cavalry Regiment, famed for being “Buffalo Soldiers.” When the units disbanded in 1944, Wolf officially became the last of the Buffalo Soldiers.

Charlie Parker’s relentless practice was a focal point of the hit 2014 movie Whiplash, a film about the intense practice of Jazz.
