Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia was named after Jerome Kern, the composer behind “Ol’ Man River.” Garcia later said he didn’t even like his name and avoided formal uses of “Jerome” unless he was in legal trouble or on a tax form.

Covers of The Grateful Dead’s 1974 song “Scarlett Begonias” include Sublime, Jimmy Buffett, Phish, Jazz is Dead and Thievery Corporation.
