Folk singer Pete Seeger was likely the last person to ever hear bluesman Big Bill Broonzy sing. He recorded the private performance and the next day, doctors nicked Broonzy’s vocal chords while performing cancer surgery. The bluesman never sang (or talked above a whisper) again.

In 2016, Alligator Records released “God Don’t Never Change: The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson”, with covers by Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Derek Trucks Sinead O’Connor, Blind Boys of Alabama and more.
