A fan of Ella Fitzgerald, Marilyn Monroe called up the Mocambo club in L.A. & promised to be in the front row every night if they’d book the jazz singer, which they did, and she was. “after that, I never had to play a small jazz club again,” Fitzgerald later lamented.

Pete Best, the original drummer for the Beatles (who was fired a month before the band’s worldwide fame) released a 1965 album called “Best of the Beatles” which contained no Beatles music. A consumer fraud investigation had to be dropped, since Best had been, indeed, “of The Beatles”.
