The Rolling Stones had a hit with their 1969 cover of Robert Johnson’s “Love In Vain”, which was presumably in public domain. 26 years later in 1995, the executor of Johnson’s estate sued The Stones and the publisher ABKCO for infringement Johnson’s copyright, and won.

Stevie Ray Vaughan wrote six of the ten tracks on his landmark album TEXAS FLOOD. Three of the other four were blues covers, one was an Isley Brothers cover.
