In 1965, The Grateful Dead and The Velvet Underground, unbeknownst to each other, were both performing as ‘The Warlocks’ on opposite ends of the country — before both having to change their names when discovering a different band called The Warlocks already released an album.

The band Gov’t Mule got its name from the suggestion of The Allman Brothers Band’s drummer Jaimoe Johanson.
