Pigmeat Markham, a Black comedian and vaudeville star who performed in blackface, recorded the 1968 single “Here Comes the Judge,” which is often cited as the earliest hip-hop record.

The folk-blusey song “House of the Rising Sun” was first recorded in the early 30s, but nobody knows who actually wrote it.
